Hi,

Has anyone had to take their child to the fracture clinic?
My son fractured his foot on Tuesday. I was told at A&E that there were two small fractures at the top of his foot. The next day at fracture clinic the doctor said the x-ray looked fine, but he wanted him to wear a cast and they would see him in two weeks. The next we got a phone call saying the doctor had re looked at the x-ray and wanted to see him in 1 week instead of 2. However I don't know why. Has this happened to anyone else?

Yes, it's standard for all xrays to be reviewed by a consultant within about 48hrs. They sometimes see something that the original person didn't, or have a different interpretation so ask that the patient return.

For example I was told I had broken my finger, got a call 2 days later asking me to return in a few days, turns out I'd broken my hand and needed a screw putting in. Because the nurse was looking at my finger which is what I was complaining about, they hadn't seen the break in my hand.

Thank you for the comment @TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 I thought it was a bit odd that we were told it was broken, but then next day it wasn't. I was just wondering what the general procedure was for fracture clinic as I have never been before.

Fracture clinic for me following the surgery and cast was an X-ray to check if the break was healing and stable, some movement checks, like making a fist, bending fingers. Once they decided it was healed enough they took the cast off.

They said they prefer the cast off as early as possible to prevent muscle stiffness which can prolonged recovery.

My advice for Fracture clinic is to take lots of snacks and things to keep him amused. It may be a long wait - well that's our experience anyway.

As PP days it may be that they have noticed something on the Xray.

Good Luck

@Notthissh1tagain the letter they gave us Wednesday said there could be a 90 minute wait so I am prepared for that. I will definitely take him plenty to keep him occupied. Thank you.
