My 7 year old daughters front baby tooth fell out ages ago. It was pulled a bit as it was hanging and wobbling and upsetting her. The skin above the missing tooth went very red. Weeks later she now has what we’ve been told is an abcess. Dentist said to cover with Iglu and come back, which we did as nowt happened. She’s now been on antibiotics and we have to go back Monday if these don’t help (which I suspect they won’t)

I want to ask dentist to X-ray the area. I don’t feel this has been caused by sugar etc but something to do with the baby tooth coming out.

Any advice out there, want to go to the dentist armed with questions! My daughter says it’s not bothering her. I feel reluctant to keep treating with meds until we know what’s causing it 🤔 thank you and happy Christmas all x

Hi OP

An abscess is not going to be caused by pulling a baby tooth, it's normal for the gum where a baby tooth was to be red when you remove it

In children abscesses are almost always caused by tooth decay, occasionally trauma to the tooth.

If she has an abscess yes an x-ray is appropriate, but it's not going to tell you pulling out a baby tooth has caused it. Im surprised the dentist told you to apply iglu to it, if it's an abscess it's an infection and really needs removal of the source which is whichever tooth is causing it, failing that antibiotics.

Has the dentist given a long term plan? Is it definitely an abscess, where is it?
