Toddler's body temperature dropped rapidly

Hi! So DD3 seemed fine in the morning, around midday we went for a walk. After lunch she was a bit warm, yawning loads (usually super active, wouldn't ever sleep through the day), fell asleep, woke up with body temperature 39.3, wouldn't get out of bed, not herself at all understandably. Gave her 5ml nurofen syrup and within couple of hours temperature down to 36.5. Is this normal?! Is it not meant to go down gradually?
Thanks

sounds totally normal tbh

BertieBotts · 12/11/2019 21:37

No, it's usual for it to go down almost immediately on having the medicine.

Nurofen works pretty fast - I'd expect it to get a temp down to normal range within 30 minutes to be honest so I think that's okay. How is she within herself?

Going down within a couple of hours is gradually, especially if you‘ve given anti-pyretics and stripped them off.

Thanks everyone for your replies. At night her temperature went up to 39.7 so took urine sample to doctors. Seems like she's got infection of some sort. Will be seeing doctor tomorrow morning.
