Joint pain in DDs aged 12 and 9 - what could it be?

Both my DDs are complaining of joint pain, mainly knees but also ankles and wrists. I was concerned due to family history of DH's side. He has had pain from teens and lots of dislocations and knee surgery.

GP thinks it's Osgood-Schlatter Disease despite the fact this is more common in very sporty boys (my two are averagely active but not sporty) and not confined to knees. I'm not confident as the same GP saw my DH and doesn't have a clue about joint pain. Both DDs are 90th centile ish for height and growing fast so could be 'growing pains' I guess.

Dd2 also has chronic hives and gets lots of infections that take a while to clear up but I can't get any GP to listen to my concerns. I do wonder whether there is some auto/low immunity thing going on.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced similar what helped?

@DefConOne sorry to hear about your daughters’ pains. Have they been referred on for further investigation and did the GP get bloods done to look for inflammation and things like that? I am not a medical person so can’t advise but I do have arthritis and have had hive like rashes in the past when having a flair. Have you noticed any triggers or food intolerances?

Are your DDs hyper mobile too? Possibly some kind of hypermobility disorder or Ehlers Danlos Syndrome.

It sounds like joint hypermobility to me. I had the same growing up, with joint pain, subluxations (partial dislocations) and tiredness. Worth getting another opinion if you don’t have faith n your GP - very few are well informed about this condition.

Osgood-schlatter is a growth plate disorder. My children have this and also problems with other growth plates. One is also hypermobile. When they have growth spurts they get joint pains. A good physio will be able to help.
