Am I overreacting about my 10 week old first cough?

Hello,

This is my first post so please bear with me. In short, my 10 week old has his first cold. He seems well in himself If he’s not hungry or tired and I wouldn’t describe him as lethargic, but I am overthinking and worrying about every breath, movement or noise. Main concerns are:

Temp of 35.3 that went up to 37 after a feed and cuddle
Seems to have developed a watery/ gunky eye today (only one eye)
Going hot then cold when check tummy, back or neck.

Am I just being irrational? Any advice from mums would be great.

I really recommend downloading the Lullaby Trust's Baby Check app, it asks a series of qu's about baby's symptoms and basically tells you whether you need GP, a&e etc. It was recommended to me by NICU when they discharged my DD and I've used it a lot when I've not been sure.

Are you sure your baby's temp was 35.3? That doesn't seem right, if it was that low your baby would have been properly ill with hypothermia. Otherwise if they're feeding and peeing and seem ok in themselves, they're probably fine. Breastmilk or cooled boiled water on cotton wool for the eye, saline drops and snufflebabe for the cough.

That’s what the digital thermometer said but after a feed cuddle and hug he was smiling and went up to 37. To be fair we had just got in from being out (only a quick outing in this cold weather) and in general he seems fine. His breathing seems okay too, if not a bit nasal. I have drops and he is EBF. 😊
