8 month old babies eye, early herpes or just irritation?

It was red yesterday and today there are a cluster of little white spots under her eye. The pharmacist told me yesterday it looks cosmetic that if it blisters then to worry but I don’t know what’s classed as a blister does it have to be bigger than this? Should I take her to be checked over? She’s still playing fine and no temp, a little clingy but that’s just her usual.

Has she been in close contact with a carrier?

Wonderland18 · 25/08/2019 09:50

MIL is a carrier and she did kiss her on Friday which is why I’m so worried. She didn’t have any active cold sores when she kissed her but I’ve asked countless times she stops doing it.

Chemist says they think it’s hayfever, I’ve never seen hayfever in a baby but god knows 🙈

He’d have to be very unlucky but, could be OP. How’s it looking now?
Is the white part of the eye looking red?

wtftodo · 25/08/2019 21:35

I’m not a doctor - but that does not look like hay fever. Call 101 and/or see a GP tomorrow

Wonderland18 · 25/08/2019 21:36

The white bit was really red earlier but started to fade and now looks fine, the wee spots have grown another 2 but don’t look angrier. Maybe better to get her checked over by a gp but it’s a bank holiday tomorrow so it’ll have to wait till Tuesday if it doesn’t worsen, just a case of keeping and eye on it in case it gets worse and if so calling 111 I reckon

OP I would call 111 tomorrow if the white part of the eye was red. Herpes Simplex in the eye often isn’t painful but can cause visual complications if untreated.

Those white spots don’t look too inflamed at the moment, but the only other thing they look like is millia - but then you wouldn’t get the redness with them.

The pharmacist basically just said there’s no pus so maybe allergies. I’m pretty easily worried as a FTM and will certainly have her at out of hours in the morning if it’s still red! Thanks for your advice!

Did you find out what it was?

Homebody90 · 12/04/2021 23:51

Also really eager to know if you found out what it was?! I know this was posted a couple years ago but my daughter has had the same thing recurring for 3 months now.

Mammamissy · 24/06/2021 02:55

My son (6months) gets this quite often and I have been allll over the internet in a panic trying to figure out if it’s serious. But from what I’ve read and after thinking about the only consistent thing that I’ve noticed is he mostly gets this after he has rubbed his eyes quite frequently. He’s at that stage where it’s almost impossible to go through a smooth diaper change without him twisting and turning and grabbing anything and everything. So I’m wondering if it’s maybe just a result of his hands not being washed or wiped down as often As they probably should be throughout the day. especially after diaper changes and then he start rubbing his eyes. But he also constantly Has his hands in his mouth as he’s teething pretty badly. So I’m wondering if it’s just a saliva thing as well. Regardless I’m going to start wiping his hands and washing his hands more throughout the day and see if that changes anything. If you have any new information I’d love to hear it as well.

@Wonderland18 did you ever find out what this was?

Wonderland18 · 10/12/2023 19:09

Oh it turned out to just be irritation from rubbing, she’s now almost 5 and thankfully still herpes free

@Wonderland18 that's amazing, so pleased for you.

I'm struggling with the same with family not respecting the no kissing rule!

Wonderland18 · 10/12/2023 21:48

@Sade49 I’m very glad, she’s not a touchy girl with anyone so thankfully she’s not a big carrier for anything, if she’d teach her sister I’d be grateful 😂

Honestly I don’t think they ever learn, in my experience they only stop once the kids old enough to say no, their want for kisses clearly surpasses the wants of the mother for their babies health
