8 almost 9 year old girl - puberty?

Dd has a couple of under arm hairs. She’s also had a few spots but less like acne and more like sensitive skin.

Should I be worried, it seems very early? I know I started my period at almost 13 but I cannot remember the other various stages of puberty or when they happened!

Worried? No. Prepared? Yes.

It can take a good few years from the first hairs and breast buds to full bown puberty, but i don't think you need to be stocking up on sanitary towels just yet. But worth buying the Usborne book "what's happening to me" and having it to hand ready to talk through with your DD when she's ready.

If you are concerned then pop to the doctors-if they share your concerns they'll refer you to hospital to do blood tests, an ultra sound and a bone density scan...I refused the consultant checking if pubic hair was evident and said that I found answer that so there was nothing "intrusive." I was careful what I told my daughter-I went along the lines of that she's so grown up the doctor wants to check that you're growing at the right time (she was fine with this)

Don't panic though-over 8 is seen to be pretty typical.

Sorry for double post -MN gremlins still at work!!! Typos...it's late!!

Widowodiw · 05/08/2019 23:55

Why would you be worried?

thaegumathteth · 05/08/2019 23:57

I guess worried isn’t the right word - I suppose what I mean is I’ll be a bit gutted if she starts her periods soon. She’s still so young!

My dd is 8.6 and seems to be starting puberty and has been for some months.
She has a shower every night and I've noticed a B.O smell so have her using an anti p now and have had a good chat with her again as already had the chat before this.

Dd is chunky as was I when I was a little girl and I started puberty young and had periods at 10. I think she will be the same. No hairs yet but definite breast buds and moods.

I can recommend switching from shower gel to plain soap eg Simple for washing if you notice BO.

thaegumathteth · 07/08/2019 08:26

Have never noticed BO tbh . Thanks for advice.

Mine started about 8 or 8.5 and yes they did get their periods early. Just turned 10.

I was gutted, its so young to have to deal with all that. My current worry is how men are starting to look eso at my younger child, she's 10 ffs.

Yes I feel for you. It's not going enough to be medically abnormal though.
