Can a child have a second bout of tonsilitis 3 weeks later?!

DD had a first bout of tonsilitis at the start of July. She's come home today complaining of a sore throat. When I look at her tonsils, one is larger than the other, but it doesnt have horrible white spots on it like last time. She had a course of penacillin which we completed.

Could she possibly have it again so soon?! We are booked to go on holiday early hours of Thursday morning.

She hasnt got a temperature. Should I take her to the GP in the morning?

Thanks in advance.

It is definitely possible as it's happened to me personally and to my nephew, he had it recurrent every 3 weeks for 3 months straight, he was never off antibiotics. Mine cleared and returned 10 days later despite antibiotics. Normal circumstances I would say keep an eye since no temp yet but since you're going on holiday in 3 days I would definitely take her to the gp tomorrow to see if they advise a 2nd round of antibiotics, tell them you're going away as this might help them make a decision on whether to medicate or not.

Thanks very much for your advice. DD does have it once again, but not as bad as last time so dr is happy for her to go on the trip if she feels well enough.

Hopefully she will feel a bit improved by the time you all arrive on your holiday.
