Hi I was just looking for a bit of advice....my son woke at 3am on Thursday morning with high temperature & complaining of sore ear & throat. Took him to dr on Thursday afternoon & they said unsure if it's viral or infection but gave us amoxicillin, he has been taking this 3 times a day since Thursday afternoon-so we are now on day 4 and there is no real improvement. I know this could mean that it is in fact viral and that's why the antibiotics aren't doing anything.
I'm just starting to panic as we are going on holiday tomorrow tea time to Majorca and he still has spiking temperatures, the runs, complaining of sore throat.
Is it typical for a virus to take this long to shake off?? Normally when my kids get sick they only really have temperatures for 48 hours max..... this seems to be dragging on a bit.
Should I contact out of hours dr again tonight?? Obviously I am giving him all the calpol & nurofen I can
Thanks

How is he today op? If he still has a fever today I would try and see the gp today again with an emergency appointment if they can squeeze you in. I'm honestly not sure what you should do with your holiday, it's a tough decision.
