First cold, blocked nose, can't stay asleep

Little one is 7 months old at this point and he has just contracted his first cold, no fever or serious symptoms...

But, he has a very snotty nose, which is manageable during the day with wipes, saline spray and a sucker... but at night, he gets all congested and just can't stay asleep, trouble breathing and the. The screams begin....

He has had the cold for about a week now, and he seems to be getting better overall, the snot factory is winding down, his appetite is coming back and he seems happier in himself.

Guess my question really is, is there anything else we can do to help him sleep at night, something to unblock the evil nose :(

I find the calpol plug in vaporiser is amazing for unblocking noses at night.

I second the calpol vapour plug in. And keeping them upright at an angle.

Thirding the calpol plug in! And raising the end of the cot with books or similar so the snot drains away.
