leg pain due to vit D deficiency

asking for a friend who is worried about DS - so may not have all the details.

Her DS is 6. he has had leg pain (upper left leg) for about 7-8 months. DF saw GP who initially told he these are growing pains. After 6 months, he had all sorts of blood tests. All came back normal - only vitamin D came back low. GP decided that this is the cause for this ongoing pain (worse at night/mornings) and prescribed Vit D supplements. This was 2 months ago but no improvement yet. GP is adamant that there is nothing else and that vit D supplementation would take 6 months to take affect. DF has been told that if DS is not better after another 3-4 months, they will consider further tests. There has been no x-ray or any physical examination of the boy as of yet.

Can this be down to vit D deficiency? DF is worried but has poor English and feels unable to challenge GP. I guess I am just looking for reasurrance for her that this could be indeed the explanation for her DS's ongoing pain.

I definitely think you should investigate further. My Vit d level was 19’and when I started supplementing I was feeling less aches and pain in less than a week - it can of course take many months to raise levels significantly, but pain levels should improve if it is Vit D deficiency. I also take Magnesium and K2 which really help my leg pain. I do have an underactive thyroid
