Overseas travel before hypospadias surgery!?

My ds is 19 months and is scheduled hypospadias surgery in early May and another for chordee after 6 or 12 months. OH just changed jobs but won't be starting new one till id of May, it's also the hours away by ca and ferry in another city. His current job ends by next week then he'll be without pay for the existing time (a month). I'm a sahm and it doesn't help that there's sky high debt from a recent purchase in hometown that he did with his family , which isnt at all an issue other than that we need to tone things down a bit.

So now oh is looking for cheap flights for us 3 to travel home overseas like 17 hrs commute average during his time off fRon wor. Im worried sick that ds should not be travelling at such a time since he is already a weakly child that has a viral every other month. Travelling home has never been a breeze either with disrupted sleep schedules, eating and getting sick evetytime. Oh plans to come back just a 3 or 5 days before surgery. We also have to move all our belongings before that to the other city.

I've tried to disuade him but to no avail. I want to visit home as much as him but our child should be priority. I feel like the whole surgery dilemma is being taken too lightly. Given the financial position atm it doesn't seem very feasible to me to travel even if the prices are cheap there compared to the rocketing prices where we are now. We will be okay in a few months time though. I just can't shake off the few lung off dread for my LO that all this will mess up the operation!
Is it reasonable for us to be travelling?
