Is there anything my nearly 11 year old can take for a cold?

He's just had calpol. Not sure if ibuprofen would make his cough worse. He's coughing, a bit breathless and exhausted. Is there anything else I can give him, he is so miserable?

Hot honey and lemon.
He can have ibuprofen but that won't do anything for a cough.

Normal hot juice helps mine ..squash with off boild water...it is the heat that is soothing.
