Worried about DS. Doctor not too worried

Ds woke at 2am with a terrible headache. Drenched in sweat and aching legs.
He woke every hour and as soon as the doctor’s surgery opened I called them and he was seen. After asking lots of questions he was told to have paracetamol and stay in bed to rest. They asked if the headache was worse when coughing. It didn’t at the time and now it does although he’s not much worse other than that since we saw them.
They didn’t know what it was and now I’m worried. He’s often tired aswell although he is very busy and always off doing things and doing his A levels too.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like flu

Glandular fever?

Realitea · 27/03/2019 06:49

Same happened last night. I always thought nightsweats were a menopause thing. Not a teenage boy thing.
His glands aren’t swollen. He did have a cough and cold before this which went away.
No temperature despite the sweats.
No stuffy nose or anything either.
I’m still baffled.

It's probably a virus. Id give it a day or 2 then take him back if no improvement.

I would take him to A&E & get them to check him over. Meningitis can show up with a whole host of different symptoms. Headaches need to be taken seriously. Even if they say there’s nothing to worry about, I wouldn’t leave him home alone and I’d check on him frequently. Teenagers can go downhill as quickly as toddlers & things like meningitis & sepsis get very serious, very quickly. They’re also often missed at a GP’s.

He doesn’t have a temperature though and he still has his appetite and he’s talking normally. No sensitivity to light. He does match some symptoms for meningitis but not others. I’ll keep a close eye on him today. I remember when we moved house he had nightsweats too, I’m starting to think it might be stress/anxiety as his a levels are approaching. Or it could be a virus. If he’s the same tomorrow I’ll phone the doctor back but if anything gets worse I’ll call 111/go to A&E depending on his symptoms.
