5 yr old dd has lovely hair but its fine. I noticed about 3 months ago i could see more her scalp through her hair.

Yesterday a mum at the school mentioned it.

Dd diet is very limited. Shes a very fussy eater.

Any suggestions?
I will take her to tbe GP in half term but really don't want to make her aware of it.

TIA

She could be short of iron. This is a prime age for it as they are growing fast.

Mention that to the GP - they may refer your DD for a blood test, but make sure they test her ferritin level (the iron stores in the body), not just her haemoglobin (the iron stores in the blood).

One of my DC had thinning hair at that age and was diagnosed with low ferritin, despite not being anaemic (haemoglobin was normal). A course of iron supplements sorted it out completely.

The GP did say to us that it could have been caused by his high milk consumption, as milk hinders iron absorption (and fills them up so they aren't eating enough iron containing foods). Does your DD drink a lot of milk?

Thanks. No she doesn't drink much milk. 2 cups a day & breakfast cereal at the very most.
Her diet is very limited.
