He has come home from school today with a temperature and complaining of a headache. Now I know it is probably just a cold but I am a really anxious person and something like this just makes it ten times worse.
He has now had calpol and fast asleep, not sure why I'm posting here, maybe just for some reassurance?

It's probably a common cold
Surely he had a cold before?

Has his temperature come down? Is he rousable? Ie if you stroke his cheek or tickle his feet will he move?

He’s more than likely fine! It’s horrible worrying though.

Quartz2208 · 18/01/2019 20:49

the headache is likely to be caused by the fever

Has his fever come down and agree is he rousable

Mememe123 · 18/01/2019 21:16

virus/bacteria cause a fever, the fever causes you to feel even more unwell such as headaches. If the meds bring down the fever and that makes you feel a lot better then its just a virus

If the fever doesnt come down that is when you have an issue

@Mememe123 don't be sorry for feeling that way. I am a very anxious single mom. I do it all myself so don't have anyone to share the worries, and whenever my DS isn't well, we'll 85 percent of the time, my mind starts going in to overdrive thinking the worst. Unfortunately my DS has had a fair bit of ill health where longterm treatment, emergency treatment, various tests and scans and operations have been needed. Going through them at the time were horrific. That small chance of it being something terrible was overwhelming. I am good that my DS would never ever know I feel this way but inside I am all over the place. Most recently my son has been complaining of pain in his legs and 'ouchy bones'. He is 4. I try and question him about it but I never know what to think. But he says it alot... Triggering my anxiety... Today I called the doctor first thing. 'Sorry no appts.. . He is under 4... Its important..... I was told to take him to the urgent care, however they would refer him back to his GP to order blood tests. I'm already aware he is regularly making these comments and now can't even get in the bloody doctors! So I can feel myself worrying more.

For your little one it definitely sounds like a cold. I am glad you have seen an improvement in his temperature. I would love to say try not to worry but I won't be a hypocrite. I reckon we both would love to worry less about these things.

I hope you are Ok an he is feeling much better tomorrow x
