Super skinny teenage boy

Anyone else have a skinny 13 year old son? Mine seems to be going upwards but not outwards. He's on the 2nd centile which I understand is just of healthy weight as that's the 3rd centile.

Yes same here. Hes 13yrs 9 months and less than 6 stone. Hes underweight I think but eats lots, just seems to burn it off.

greenelephantscarf · 15/01/2019 22:36

is he alert and active?
then I wouldn't worry.
they are supposedto be skinny at that age.
have you looked at the bmi? that might be a better indicator than a centile tbh

DramaAlpaca · 15/01/2019 22:41

I had three boys like that. As a pp says, if he's alert, active & eating well there should be no need to worry. They tend to go in phases of stretching upwards then outwards until the growth spurt settles down.

MummaPI · 15/01/2019 23:17

He's 148 cm and 5 stone 1. Alert and doesn't stop blooming eating!!

If it helps, some lads are just thin. DP is 23, over 6ft and weighs 9.8 stone (same as me Blush) he is pure lean muscle.

Sometimes they're built to be wiry, sometimes they bulk out as later teens (my middle brother is the latter, younger brother the former).

Mine was skinny as a rake.
It didn't last.

Mine were/are! As the mother of 4 boys I find they go through a phase when they are about 13 when they just grow up in height. I worried a lot because while eating healthily, they don't eat the quantity other boys seem to. But as long as they feel well you'll find that he'll fill out in the next couple of years.

Thanks all, I'm slowly getting used to the minefield that is teenage boys!!

My son was like that and is still very thin now. He went to the doctor who told him to eat double carbs at every meal, so cereal and toast, lasagne and garlic bread etc. He did, but didn't like it.

When he was in hospital for investigation when he was little, the doctor said, "This is exactly how I like children to be - no excess fat, plenty of energy" so obviously it's healthy enough.

BlueJag · 16/01/2019 19:11

Ours is just 13 and weighs 49 kilos and is 1.61cms.

BlueJag · 16/01/2019 19:12

7.7 stone. 5'3 feet tall.

BlueJava · 16/01/2019 19:15

Yes, 1st percentile and 17 yo. He's 6'1" and super skinny. I did ask (as he went to hospital recently they said it was fine).
