Really smelly ear discharge - cholesteatoma?

DD2 suffered from chronic ear infections between the ages of 1 and 2, and since then she’s had more or less constant discharge from her right ear but no more pain or high temperatures. The discharge can range from thick and yellow to almost translucent but has never really smelled. However, for the last week she’s had a horribly smelly ear, it really smells very bad, and although she’s fine in herself I’m wondering if I should take her to the GP? I read that one of the symptoms of cholesteatoma is a smelly ear, so now I’m worried...

It's quite rare, so unlikely, but possible. It could also be an ear infection, or something has got stuck in there (toddlers put all sorts in their ears!) so worth seeing the gp about it anyway!

Thanks, that’s reassuring!
