Toddler rash and now fever

Does anyone have any thoughts on what this might be? It's under my toddler's armpit and down the side of her body and inner arm. It's rough and bumpy and now increasingly red.

I made a non-urgent GP appointment (for next week) as I wanted it checked out but she didn't seem ill or bothered by the rash. But now she's out of sorts, temp of 39 and generally quite miserable.

I've googled all the toddler rash illnesses but nothing totally fits the description. But now I'm really worried that I should have had her seen today.

I'd really appreciate any thoughts.

Thank you.

Heat rash?

spotspot · 01/06/2018 18:36

I hope so! I meant to say in my OP- she's had it for a few days now. Does heat rash stick around like that?

Yes, dc has heat rash and he's been covered for days. He's quite a sweaty child right now as he's learnt to run everywhere. His entire body is covered in blotches including his face!

DH has bought calamine lotion today and something called chicken pox relief which is meant to cool and stop itching.

My 2.5 year old had a very similar rash to that a few weeks ago - I never got to the bottom of it but it didn’t seem to be causing her any discomfort and it cleared up by itself after about 5 days. I assumed heat rash. However, she didn’t have a fever - it might just be a coincidence but I would just watch the temp and if you get worried then call out of hours.

Thanks all. On your suggestions, I've googled more about heat rash and looks like it could be that. I'm hoping the fever is unrelated (and also not too serious in itself. Teething maybe??) and that the rash will settle if I follow the heat rash advice. Fingers crossed. She's been ill so much recently, I'm really hoping this is nothing!

Really appreciate the information, thank you.

Hope she’s doing ok today Flowers

Thanks Squirrels. She continued to spike a fever over the weekend but has seemed better since yesterday lunchtime.

Rash is still there and is a little more livid (new pic here), but is still not bothering her. I have a GP appointment tomorrow so I'm hoping for a definitive answer then.

Just an update in case it's helpful for anyone.

The GP said it's a fungal rash. He said that the fact the rash is rough, the skin feels "thickened", and the way it has spread points to a fungal infection, and so has prescribed an anti-fungal cream. I've got to wait and see over the next week or so but he was pretty sure.

He said the fevers most likely are just coincidence.
