Eczema flair up; infection or other?

Any advice helpful. My son has eczema not too severely on his left ankle which was clearing up with application of child's farm moisturiser. About two weeks ago however my son had a scratching fit and opened up some big wounds. I've been treating it with sudocreme but to no avail- every time it seams to get better he scratches again and makes it worse. Been giving him boots own antihistamines but they don't seam to last long enough to stop him scratching. My brother took a look at it and as he has a little cut on his finger that seamed to flair up he thinks it may be a herpes infection. I can't think of a way he could possibly have got that so think it's another kind of infection. I have pictures but no idea how to post them. Anyone had any experience with this? I'm taking him straight to the Dr tomorrow morning but could do with a few opinions to stop me going crazy with worry.

Sounds to me like the eczema has got a little infected. The Dr. Can prescribe a steroid/antibiotic cream that works well (if that is what it is !)
