Food, especially snacks, ideas for child with a dental brace?

DS aged 9 years has a brace. We've been told no sugar, nothing hard, crunchy, no seeds, nuts etc. This is making meals difficult and snack time impossible.

Can anyone help with snack ideas?

Banana, oat & honey smoothie.

Soft bread should be o.k

Thanks Soundsgood.

Any other ideas. I'm thinking especially of snacks for when he comes home from school.

Bread / butter /cheese / cheese spread /crackers/plain ready salted crisps / banana /hummus /bread sticks.
Best thing for teeth/ prevention of dental decay is not to snack at all, eat 3 meals a day & make sure any sugar is grouped with the 3 meals.

Smoothies particularly containing honey, ie sugar, are not sensible snacks for anyone, let alone someone who is being mindful of their dental health.

Crumpets, they make less crumbs than toast, with smooth peanut butter, cream cheese or actual butter.
Bananas
Jaffacakes
Cut up soft fruit like mango, melon and peaches. With Greek yoghurt or from age frais.
Ds found crisps were the worst for sticking in his teeth! And missed biting apples,Grin but managed if they were cut up.

I had braces as an adult.

The first few days were really painful and I couldn't eat anything tougher than soup/yoghurt. I struggled with risotto (might put that on my gravestone).

Cheese would be good - obviously the problem with braces is that food gets stuck in them and contributes towards tooth decay. As pp said, it's just easier not to snack at all, as he'll have to brush his teeth every time after eating. Cheese helps remineralise tooth enamel - less damaging than many other foods.
