dd12 keeps feeling funny - bubble in throat, bad taste and sicky feeling

This has been going on for about a month, at first we thought it was a virus but it hasn't got better, if anything worse. The doctor has referred us to the hospital, she said she would mark it as urgent and could we make a cancellation if one came up (which we would). DD had surgery on her intestines when she was born (she had duodenal atresia) which was completely corrected and we were told should not ever cause her anymore problems unless scar tissue thickened but unlikely.

I wouldn't have thought this is connected as we were told she would vomit green bile if she ever had any problems associated with the surgery. She hasn't been vomiting at all but feels nauseous. It comes and goes, she always feels worse after eating. She goes pale, becomes clingy, says she has a bad taste in her mouth and like a bubble in her throat. She has tummy ache and occasional tummy pains to the sides. Its starting to get her down and she worries about feeling like it at school as she just wants us when it comes on.

Has anyone heard or experienced this before? I don't know how to help her. I was thinking it was maybe a reflux thing what with the bad taste and funny feeling in her throat but she isn't belchy or gassy?! I would be most grateful for any thoughts....thankyou!

Symptoms do sound like refllux, my ds had very similar and was prescribed heartburn medication which seemed to sort it.

KitKatCHA · 15/04/2018 21:54

Oh and he wasn't windy from either end too.

silver1977 · 15/04/2018 21:57

Oh that's reassuring to hear, thankyou.

Yes my first thought was reflux as well - maybe silent reflux

ScarlettDarling · 15/04/2018 22:11

Could it be post nasal drip? When I have it, my throat feels clogged up and it does make me nauseous.

The other thing the symptoms reminded me of was anxiety.

That's reflux - what's her diet like and is she overweight?

Ariela · 15/04/2018 22:23

I'd try her on Rennie tablets if it recurrs before the hospital appointment, if it is heartburn it should help.

silver1977 · 15/04/2018 22:24

No not overweight, think she may have lost a bit really. Has a healthy diet although she is not wanting much when she feels 'funny' and has just what she fancies.

It is everyday she feels like this at various times during the day. I wondered whether to try something like Rennie but I know she won't want to as she hates medicines!

I had similar symptoms last year and turned out to be an excess of stomach acid. Got it fixed with a course of lanzaprozole from the walk in centre. I'd try the rennies and see if they help Smile

Ariela · 16/04/2018 10:27

I'd explain that the Rennies are a very long established remedy, and they only contain naturally occuring acid neutralising substances such as calcium carbonate, and magnesium carbonate. An alternative would be to give her a small piece of chalk to eat...but a Rennie tastes a bit nicer.
