DS (2) wasin hospital over the weekend as a persistent cough had gotten worse and then very rapidly led to breathing problems (vomiting, blue eyelids, fast breathing). Some cough had been around since at least new year and when crying, but it sounded worse Fri and took him to the GP who said his chest was clear. Then he became unwell Saturday and into hospital. They initially said 'vital wheeze' and prescribed steroids and inhalers, which did seem to help, but crackles were heard sat night so he was xrayed and diagnosed with mycoplasma pneumonia which may or may not have lingered for months. He was put on an antibiotic and taken off steroids and puffer. Consultant the next morning queried the diagnosis - saying it may just be a virus - and asked that throat swans be done. Last night no oxygen was needed so wee discharged today and those swabs were done just as we left when I reminded them. Last consultant said a 10 day course of antibiotics made sense but we've been given 7 days. We've not been told anything about whether he's contagious or susceptible to other things while he's getting better, so I'm not sure when to get him back to diary, how much I should feel we're out of the woods now he's on antibiotics, or even whether this really is pneumonia rather than asthmatic wheeze.
Does anyone have any experience that could help?
Who can I follow up with to check in the questions above?
Thanks in advance if you made it this far.
