I have not seen this before and not noticed anything until just now. The GPs has just closed - does anyone have any idea what it might be?

I don't know, but personally I would get a rash like that checked out. Give 111 a call.

clairethewitch70 · 26/02/2018 17:21

Yikes I would get that checked out. Ring OOH. Are they well or running a temp?

Couchpotato3 · 26/02/2018 17:21

Has he had his leg up against a radiator or hot water bottle? You can get something called erythema ab ignore that looks like that. Is he otherwise well in himself?

Couchpotato3 · 26/02/2018 17:21

ab igne. sorry, autocorrect!

farmnannyneeded · 26/02/2018 17:28

He did have a hot water bottle in his bed for his nap, so sounds possible. Will have a google - thanks so much Coachpotato3

I've had it myself a number of times and it just fades away in a few hours.

farmnannyneeded · 26/02/2018 17:43

That's even better news Coachpotato3, thanks for the reassurance! Does this mean that we should avoid hot water bottles, or just wrap them up a bit better?

Is it only on one leg? Is it spreading and has he been unwell recently?

LoveToHoliday · 26/02/2018 20:07

If unwell recently, could be HSP.

OutyMcOutface · 26/02/2018 20:21

Any idea how long it's been there?

Quartz2208 · 26/02/2018 20:25

Yes if its non blanching it could be HSP

codswallopandbalderdash · 26/02/2018 20:30

My DS had something similar last Xmas but it did blanch and he wasn't unwell. It came and went in different places on his body for 3-4 days. We ended up at the pharmacist (only place open on boxing day as it was getting worse) and they said it was a skin reaction probably viral and not to worry as long as he didn't have a temp

farmnannyneeded · 26/02/2018 21:37

Thanks everyone, sorry for the late response, I was at a class. He seems fine, but started to say it hurt once I had looked at it and taken a picture (I think for the attention). I am working on the assumption that it is what Coachpotato3 said, but will make a dr appointment tomorrow to get it checked out.

When DD2 was around 2 her legs went like this while at nursery. They were really worried as initially thought looked like a scald but nothing had happened.
Showed GP photos who said it was an allergy.
She had periodic episodes including once where her face and eyelids swelled up.
Allergy tests at the Children's hospital were all negative and they said it was just how she reacts to viruses.
Episodes became less frequent and hasn't had one for about 3 years now. She's now 13.

I use red hot hot water bottles on my stomach when my endometrial pain is bad, I end up with a rash that looks just like that and which can be sore to the touch, basically scalding myself!

Couchpotato3 · 26/02/2018 23:12

I think it's just a case of not using water that is quite so hot or wrapping up the hottie a bit more. Hope he's OK.
