How long did it take your DC to recover from chickenpox

DS is 4.5. He had a nasty dose of chickenpox last week - we're now on day 7. The spots are healing nicely although they're still really visible. But he seems completely wiped out, sleeping loads, complaining of nausea, flying off the handle at the drop of a hat, bursting into tears. The school advice is to keep them off for minimum five days from a 'contagious' point of view. He's now had five days off plus the weekend and I was planning to send him back tomorrow but now I'm not so sure. Just wondered about your experiences and how long it took your DC to recover from chickenpox?

You have to keep him off until all the spots are crusted over regardless of what the school says, otherwise he’s still contagious.

Chicken pox can completely wipe you out, depends how badly they get it. If he’s not ready then don’t send him back.

My DC had them twice (yes), and the first time they weren’t that ill but the second it did just wipe them out. Does he feel ready to go back?

I don't think he does feel ready. The school seems to want to get them back asap. The spots are all crusted over but I think he prob needs a few more days as he's not himself. Think I'll prob keep him off till Monday. Thanks for your reply!

Ds3 had it for 10 days and wasn't ill with it. My others all had it for 2 weeks. Ds2 was particularly miserable.
