Grommets in and adenoids out. So why is DS still deaf?

The dr sucked a load of sticky gunk from DSs ears before putting the grommets in and said his adenoids were huge. Def needed doing.

Now a week later he is still not hearing clearly and his speech hasn’t changed much. School hearing test (not sure how thorough it is?) today said he was quite deaf still.

How long does it take or should I start worrying that’s its nothing to do with glue ear and adenoids?

How were his hearing tests done? To see if its hearing loss not connected to glue ear, there is a test where they place 'earphones' (they are not ear phones because they don't go on the ear) on the bone behind the ear. Id your DS can hear the sounds through the 'bone phones' then its likely the hearing loss is due to glue ear. If he still cannot hear then there could be hearing loss that might need to be addressed differently. It might be worth asking for a hospital based audiology appointment to get him tested again. If adenoids are out, glue sucked out and grommets in, then his hearing should have improved. DD's did straightaway, but try not to worry, the grommet surgery might have failed so worth getting him checked out.

Thanks. We will definitely ask for another proper audiology test.
