Three year old girl losing clumps of hair

My 3-year old daughter is in good health, lively and has a lovely thick mane of hair. She has flu and a fever last week, which subsided and she's back to her usual self. But - I was brushing her hair this morning - soft bristle brush, very tentative as it is thick and tangles a fair bit - no morning-rush style brushing at all. A big - I mean a good handful - clump of hair came out from the roots at one side. Her scalp looks clear. I can get a GP appt tomorrow, so I'll get her seen, but in the meantime I am freaking out a bit. Anyone experienced similar?
