Can small children become tall adults?

My son is just over 10 and a half and is 133cm in height. He's always been the smallest in his year group and has not grown much in the last year hovering around 130ish cm for months and months 😞.

He is aware that he is small for his age and gets teased a bit but brushes it off which is good ;)

Just wondering if small children can ever grow into tall adults (or even average height adults).

Thanks! X

I suppose he may just turn out to be not that tall, like your DH. Has he got any words of wisdom he can pass on to your son? Was he short as a child too so can suggest strategies to help for now?

My sister was tiny during her schooling. Now she is 6 foot.

I think the charts are a poor indicator.

DS: 36.5 weeks, 7lb 5ox, plotted as 50 centile weight and height. Most of childhood was 50th weight, 25th height. At 14 I think he grew 9 inches in as many months. I have never seen a person eat so much as the two years from about 13-3/4 to 16. He was 5.11 becore he went to uni and for ages before and put on another inch between 20 and 21.

DD: 41.5 weeks, 8lb13oz, 90th centile for height. In yr 5 the nurse gave her a letter saying she was overweight in front of the others (that had a terrible impact on her). She was actually having an early puberty and if I put in 12.5 years rather than 10 (which is where she was developmentally she was not overweight). At the end of yr 5 she was 5'1". She started her periods in yr 6 at 10yrs 5 months. She is 19, 5'3", and a very dainty size 8-10.

I'm 5'7", DH is 5'11". I am extraordinarily tall for my family - my mother is 5'2", my father was about 5'8".

I think it's genetically determined and the red book and its interpretation is based on a train track mentality.

Yes. My brother went from smallest in his year to 6 ft 3 in a year.

I mean if your parents are also short it would be rare that you would grow taller than maybe 5 cm taller than your dad. In my case my mother is 173 cm my dad is 181. When i was a kid i was pretty short but now i am really tall, i was a late bloomer maybe starting puberty 5 months after i turned 13. I remember measuring my self right when i turned 13 and i was 154 cm. Now as a 19 year old i am 197 cm. But i think that why i am so tall is also because my grandmothers father was 198 cm so i got his tall gene i guess.

Another message under it to convert the cm to feet if you don't know cm
173 cm (5'6) 181 cm (rougly 5'11) 154 cm (5 foot) 197 cm (6'6) 198 cm (6'6)
