Streak of blood on stool

Hi,

My 4 year old son passed a stool today and there was a streak of blood on it. It was bright red and on the outside rather than mixed in. He is quite constipated and it was quite a hard stool.

I’m thinking a tear but obviously the sight of blood made me panic a little. Anyone have any experience?

Thanks

Forgot to say - my son said it didn’t hurt at all.

I'm thinking a tear or burst capillarie tbh. Especially since he was constipated. You don't always feel it and if it was from further inside it would be mixed in and probably darker red. I wouldnt worry unless it keeps occurring.

Thank you for replying. I’m thinking the same. Will keep an eye on it. I’m not sure whether a doctor appointment would be necessary yet? I think he’d find it really stressful as he’d need to be examined. Obviously, if it continues I’ll take him.

Nah I wouldn't. We all get little fissures when constipated every now and again. Unless it happens every time for a week and I thought it might be piles or was dark blood, indicating that it was coming from deeper in the colon, I wouldn't worry.
