2 year old tickly cough for 2 weeks any suggestions?

She's coughing all day and night until she's almost sick. Poor thing is getting very fed up. I don't usually get cough medicines because i don't think they work but I might get one today. Anyone have any tricks to help soothe it? Do cough medicines actually work?

Try a spoonful of honey every few hours. Manuka is the best if you can manage it, but it all works wonders!
