Spots of blood in toddler’s nappy

My 16 month old DS has had a little red spot of blood in his nappies every time we’ve changed him today. He seems fine, a bit off maybe but he’s also teething. Went to GP and we’ve got to take in a urine sample and go for a kidney scan. Feeling a bit panicked as GP said it was odd, and said we might have to see a paediatrician. Anyone had any similar experience?

It is a bit odd- blood in urine wouldn't cause one spot of blood- are you sure he hasn't got a bleeding nick or spot anywhere in the region? Does it look like pure blood?
