Blisters/lumps and joint pain with a cold virus?

A couple of years ago DD1 (now 15) developed painful blisters/hard lumps on her fingers and toes with smaller bumps on her knees and elbows, it was accompanied by joint pain. The GO we saw didn't have a clue but decided it was most likely a bacterial infection (not an allergic reaction) and gave her some antibiotic cream to use. A few days later it started to ease but it was hard to say if it was the cream or just run it's course.

6 months later it happened again, not as severe and she also had mild cold symptoms, as did others in the house. It has happened a few times since, never as bad as the first time and always associated with mild cold symptoms, or when someone else in the house has a cold.

She developed them again last week, worse this time and quite painful but no cold. Two days later DS2 started with a cold. Is this her bodies way of reacting to the cold virus? I have searched many sites, NHS, etc and cannot find any other explanation.

I had wondered whether it was some kind of arthritis but would that cause blisters? They don't burst but are quite red.

I would go back to GP but the skin condition expert is there rarely and by the time I got an appointment she would be better, it usually lasts 4-6 days.
