Just asking as DS aged 15 has just been diagnosed. We don't know anyone else with type 1! Of course we can look on the web but just wanted a chat with a real person!

I was diagnosed aged 11 - 24 years ago - so not quite the same thing but please feel free to pm me if any questions.
I have a pump now and use a freestyle libre for cgm but that is self funded.
Has your son got an insulin pump? I strongly recommend them. They allow as close a normal life as is possible imo.

It is a shock, my mum particularly found my diagnosis hard. She does assure me that it becomes normal very quickly though!

Hi CheshireEditor my DS was 5 when diagnosed, he's now 20 so we're just about through the teenage years.

Can I point you towards UK Children with Diabetes (CWD)? They have an active FB group and were a lifeline for me in the early weeks and months after diagnosis. There's always someone to chat to on there.

Best wishes to you and your son.

Never does that monitor eliminate finger prick blood testing?? If so that's amazing.

Not entirely. You have to check it here and there to make sure it's reading the same but the amount of blood tests I do is probably around a third of what they were before. Plus the freestyle takes readings constantly. So overnight I can see exactly what my sugars have been doing.
