Can it be hand, foot and mouth without mouth ulcers?

My son, almost 2, developed a spotty rash on his bum this morning. It's now bad and blistering. He is very awake and pulling at his nappy.
He also has developed a patchy rash on his hands and one of his feet this evening which made me think of hand, foot and mouth but his mouth seems fine. He had a slight temperature this afternoon and hasn't eaten much today.
He's my first, so I don't have experience of the common childhood illnesses yet.

Yes my ds didn't have any mouth blisters but yes on hands and feet only and a mild temp. The skin went blistert and loose for weeks after.

My two didn't get mouth blisters at all. In fact, I didn't realise they had HFM for a good week. It didn't bother them one bit.

Thank you, I didn't notice I had got replies.

I ended up taking him to the GP on the advice of the pharmacist and it was chicken pox! It had mixed with his eczema which is why the pharmacist was confused. He's wasn't too bad with it after the first two nights and is all better now.
