Swollen Gland - one side of neck

Our 20 month old son has for around 6 weeks had a swollen gland on one side of his neck. It's particularly noticeable when he turns away. The gland under the ear that side is also noticeable. He has been to the doctors twice and is due back in a months time. They don't seem too concerned as they aren't huge and haven't gotten bigger. They think they were caused by a virus he had around 8 weeks ago. Other than the noticeable glands he is his normal self - playing and running around and eating etc.
We are just worried. The GP has said that bloods may be taken and a scan and referral to a specialist may be made at the next appointment in mid August. Any previous experience of these type of things??

Hello

My son has the exact same lump. He has also had viral infections and he has an on going ear infection at the moment. I'd love to know how your little one gets on we are due back in 2 weeks and I will let you know too

Thanks

Yes definitely let us know. Our son doesn't appear to have any ear infection but they have prescribed him ear drops. He also seems to suffer a bit of hayfever which I'm not sure helps. Will keep you updated of his next appointment!

Hi,

Just an update on my son. He has had bronchiolitis over the past week and ended up being seen at hospital. The paediatric doctor said anything under 2-3cm is not an issue and they wouldn't look twice.

Since then I have been back to my GP and he said he would rather have it checked and get a scan on it. He said should be seen in the next few weeks and I will let you know.

Have you heard anything more?

Hi. We are due to see the doctor next Monday. We have been abroad for the last two weeks so hopefully see what happens on Monday. Keep me posted!

My son has had this since he was born; the doctors have had a feel around and aren't concerned. That's just the way he is apparently.

My DD had this I remember around age 1 to 2. Was squishy/firm and moved under pressure. I took her to the doctor who felt it and said he wasn't concerned but to keep an eye.It stayed quite a while but eventually got smaller or she got bigger but she's now nearly 17 and all ok.

Any news? We have an ultra sound scan on 14th

Hi - doctor checked and said although it appears enlarged it is actually normal. They also said that it would have enlarged a lot more over a three month period and so it has been left that if it enlarges or gets bigger and remains swollen then to go back again!
