Worried about infection - too much googling

I posted on here a little while a go regarding a lump my 2 yr old son had on his leg(first pic). He's had it for 6 months and he's been back and forth to the Drs. Creams and antibiotics have not helped. They set him up with an appointment with a dermatologist at the hospital for September. Anyway this evening we were about to put on the cream and saw that it was pussing. I wanted to make sure it was all drained before putting the cream on and as I gently squeezed it (my heart breaks at how upset he was) put pops a THORN! Started beating myself up over it but remembered numerous Drs had looked at it and not realised too. He's now fast asleep in bed after saying it felt better. And the pregnant hormonal me cannot sleep. I'm worried about infection. I have a script for antibiotics for it because the Dr thought it might be an infected boil. Shall I give him this or not. Does he need to be seen?

He's been coming out in hives recently and unknown allergy related rashes. Could this be why?

Is the wound still producing pus? Is the area round it red and inflamed? Tbh it sounds like he's had the infection and now its over. I wouldn't give antibiotics.

I also doubt the rashes/hives are in any way related to what was a self limiting infection - but I'm no doctor.

Did you clean it well with antiseptic, OP? I wouldn't give him antibiotics unless it gets red and and sore looking and even then I would consult a doctor.

Can't see any puss. Looks a little redder than normal but not much. The bump hasn't grown any bigger and there's a little scab. I've got some fusidic acid cream that we've been applying since before the thorn came out. I'm still amazed that it was in there!
No Drs appointments today so will keep an eye on it.
