What is the point in taking my toddler to dentist?

DS is 2 and a half. I haven't taken him to the dentist. But apparently I should.

Teeth-brushing is often a nightmare. He fidgets, clamps his mouth shut or covers it.... etc

How on earth would a dentist be able to even see properly inside his mouth with this sort of going-on? Should I not just keep on (trying to) brush his teeth and not let him gorge on too much sugar, and keep my fingers crossed?

Depends on a lot of stuff like how your tooth enamel is, quantity of saliva, etc. if I'm not badly mistaken. I have a friend who always had terrible teeth. Very little and browny enamel. Nothing to do with hygiene. :( and like I said dentist said DS's tooth had not properly formed enamel wise, hence a cavity. Never before and not since. He eats a fairly normal (with a bit of daily treat food) child diet and brushes teeth well.

thats we have no idea! Probably everything he shouldn't have been coupled with no dental care ..... he now has very limited sugar intake and is very careful about oral hygiene - takes great pride in his toothbrush and mouthwash 😁

At 2 anda half. It's not so much thoroughly checking their teeth, it's more to get then used to visiting the dentist from a young age. It helps to go, trust me. My son has been going since a baby and loves it! I know children who never went as youngsters and hate it!

Well, we went. And he moderately enjoyed it. Didn't cry at least. He has mentioned it several times since we left. And has been clutching his "I love my dentist" rubber that he was given all afternoon.
