Dd screaming in pain as bottom is hurting

My dd 5 has recently had a upset tummy. Since then she had been in complete agony saying her bottom hurts. I don't know how to ease her pain. I've given her calpol but it hasn't worked. Typically the gp is closed now until Tuesday. I don't know what could be wrong with her. Her teacher did say there was a case of threadworms in her class. Could that be a symptom or could it be from going to the toilet frequently? It's not just sore she says its really painful even if she's just sat still she will scream out that she's in pain. How can I help her?

When you say going to the toilet frequently does that include pooing? Because pain in the bum is a common symptom of constipation. Does it look sore there? Any rash? I don't think worms would cause pain, usually just itchiness.

Maybe the upset tummy has hurt her bottom? I know I get a bit sore after a lot of loose stools (sorry), maybe sudacrem or bepanthen? Or cool baths?

Hmm - does sound like constipation if she is crying when sitting.

Have you had a look at her? If it's sore, it'll be red/inflamed & cream will help. If worms, that would be itchy and you'd typically have no symptoms till nighttime, when it might stop her sleeping or wake her.

I've had worms (thanks kids ) and the itching is unbearable, but that's just at night. My daughter described it more as pain than itching. The medicine is over the counter and I would say that it's worth a try if
they're going round.

Have a look, see if bottom red, sore, cracked etc if shes had loose stools this is probably the cause. Nice bath, metanium or bepanthen should help poor thing x

Sorry yes she's frequently pooing. I don't think she's constipated. Sometimes she also will say it's her front bottom hurting too which worries me. She doesn't look sore either and I've gave her a Luke warm bath but as soon as she was out she was saying she was hurting again.

Worms can travel from back to front making vulva sore too (bitter voice of experience).

Could it be she is sore from not wiping properly? I'd be tempted to put cream on until morning and if still bad take to a walk in centre?

Sit her in a salt or plain water warm bath. Will help if it's abdo pain, itchy or sore skin.

Cream may help- but only on clean skin. If you have any non-petroleum (burts bees, neals yard, lanisoh etc) use that.

Pharmacy as soon as possible of otc ovex in case it's worms. Threadworms are so common i worm mine every 6 months.

No fruit juice for a day or so, and monitor fruit intake. It seems to acidify wee in mine which then burns...

If no change by tues gp appt.

Can you tell this is a regular occurance in our house....?

This sounds like my 7 year old dd.

We have had her screaming in pain, holding her bottom and front bottom. A bath would ease it and it would then continue. It's always worse at night.

Two trips to two different GPs,one told me it was frequent in young girls and to topically apply a certain cream for 5 days which didn't help one jot.

Second trip to doctors and my dd had to endure a mini swab which was uncomfortable but a call later said they had found something which required antibiotics. Her urine and stool sample had both come back clear, it was the internal swab that picked up the issue.

It's no fun for them. The poor little things

Wipe her clean around the bottom and vagina with a warm wet flannel. Then have her smother the area in Vaseline.

That way, if it's worms, it should stop the discomfort (caused by the stinging of their saliva on the skin).

Wipe the area clean in the morning. Clean all bedding in the morning.

I did this plus gave dd the worming medicine. Doing this for two weeks should break the life cycle of its worms.

If she's sore due to frequent runny poo, then sudocrem or similar will help a lot.

If you think it's worms, vaseline will work better.

It does sound like worms, poor little girl. They really are incredibly painful for children. I'd nip out to a pharmacy now and get something for her, don't wait until tomorrow.

We has this with DS after a tummy bug. He was literally screaming in pain. Dr thought it could be small internal fissure. It wasn't red or inflamed on the outside. DS said it hurt inside. Dr advised putting Vaseline on it. Cleared up after a few days but was horrible for him.

Use a torch and very gently pull bottom cheeks apart. If it is threadworms you will see them wriggling. Apparently they come out at night to lay the eggs. Dose of worming medicine as soon as you get chance for ALL the family.

Gosh I hope it's not worms they sound vile. I will check on her shortly. She's been asleep for an hour without showing any signs of pain. Poor darling I wish I knew what was causing this.

I wonder if the upset stomach has caused a fissure? IBS caused mine and it was uncomfortable to sit down and going to the toilet was breathtaking.

The pains come on suddenly and happen at all different times of day. Oh and also she's had a lot of leg pains the past few days too

I've just had a bout of diarrhoea which lasted a few days I've never felt such a burning stinging pain after. Sudocream cleared it up

OP, have a google at a condition called Proctalgia Fugax.

I'm pretty sure I have this, and it started in childhood. It was initially diagnosed as constipation (which was definitely wrong), then later on attributed to my IBS (possibly) but it can exist as a separate condition, independent of any other illness.

It's definitely exacerbated by upset stomachs, and stress, and sometimes by energetic exercise.

In my case, warm baths, relaxation exercises and drinking lots of water are helpful.

But obviously, this is all just my experience and is no substitute for professional advice.

My little boy gets terrible pain in his bottom when he gets worms. The gp said they can cause spasms. He sits on a hot water bottle, but the worming stuff does work very quickly so definitely worth dosing with that anyway
