Invasive group A Strep, pneumonia, sepsis, toxic shock, anyone have experience?

Hello, my daughter has/had iGAS. She became suddenly ill last weekend and came out of intensive care today but is still very very poorly. I'm just looking to talk with anyone who's had or their child has had this. Particularly what the recovery was like. Many thanks x

Hi Rosielea,
So sorry to hear about your daughter. We have been there as well and have our little survivor today doing well. She was 19months old when it happened, 10 days in PICU, dialysis and a partial foot amputation but these days a healthy happy and very active 7 year old. She has GAS probably from the respiratory route following a bit of a cold though no pneumonia.

She spent an initial 3 weeks in hospital including her PICU stay and then had further time in and out of hospital over the next 3 months for her foot. Kidney wise she made a full recovery of function within her time at hospital and kidney swelling settled over a couple of months. In herself she took a while to get eating properly re-established but slowly and surely she got there. Mobility was an issue for quite a while with her foot but I think she did really well all things considered and today no-one would know seeing her mobility unless they looked hard. It will probably become more of an issue as she gets older and grows etc as nowadays the muscle bulk on her right leg is different to her other leg but emotionally she just gets on with it. She is monitored for leg length growth as she does have a difference between the two but that has remained fairly constant now for a while so we hope this will stay this way rather than increase further between the two.
