Grommit fallen out, now what? (Gross pic alert)

This morning, I wiped what I thought was a spot of wax out of my 5 year old's ear and this is what appeared. I'm assuming the grommit was ready to come out or have I just yanked it out and ripped her ear drum (it looks pretty blocked up) ?! How quickly does the hole grow over? Do I need to get it checked? Is it ok to keep swimming (with earplugs?) Sorry, a lot of questions. There's a 3 week wait for doctor appointments .

I'm not sure but most surgeries have telephone appointments that are only a few days wait max. You could try that and at least you can speak to a doctor x

You won't have yanked it out don't worry, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's healed already, it's probably been working its way down the ear canal for some time.

Swimming with earplugs should be fine (I'd always use earplugs anyway if there's any ear problems)

That's a relief! It looks so long though. DD isn't complaining of any pain. Her ears have been able to pop for a month or so, so I'd assumed that the grommets had already fallen out. Until this appeared!

I assume if it's out you just continue as normal, assuming at least 6m have passed? My ds is 14m post grommets and has a lot of wax in one ear today, no pain, could this be sign grommet on way? We were specifically told not to wear ear plugs swimming..

I pulled my grommits out thinking they were lumps of hardened earwax.

I think I'm okay.
