3 weeks old and very runny poos

Hi,
My 3 week old is formula fed. He has been very uncomfortable for a good few days which I put down to wind but he is currently pooing a good 4-5 times a day and they are extremely runny. I think this is why he is so uncomfortable. Is this a normal phase or should i speak to a gp? He is eating fine. A good 4-5oz every 2-3 hours.

It's pretty normal for them to poo numerous times a day at this age, and for it to be runny. I remember my babies' formula fed poo being simultaneously runny and grainy. There was a definite change around the age of six weeks when the poo changed consistency and started happening less often.

So I wouldn't necessarily say runny poo is the cause of the discomfort because it sounds fairly normal. Some babies suffer horribly with wind. Some have reflux. Are there any other symptoms that you're worried about?

I remember DS1 having 'loose' poos but this is really runny, like puddles in his nappy so I was a bit concerned.
He has been on anti reflux milk for the last week as he was being so sick. He isn't being sick much now so the milk has obviously helped. No other concerning symptoms I don't think, just the upset and writhing around in between feeds, which, as you say May be just wind/colic. Trying him in colief but that doesn't seem to be helping, he is still so uncomfortable 😣

Hmmm. Reflux. And colic. And diarrhoea (that does sound looser than the average baby poo). Has anyone considered cows milk protein intolerance?

It might be beacuse of the change in formula, give it a little more time and see if it stops.
If not I would speak to hv or gp.
