Both my 10month old son and wife are sick at the moment, seems to be a bad cold type thing, wife has very bad cough / weakness, son had cough for a week then the last 6 days he has had fever, hits 38.6 capol doesnt work so managing it with baby Neurofen, hardly sleeps at night unless Im holding him, and seems to be getting no better.

I've had him at doctors twice both said just a virus no chest infection on either my wife or son, but I'm worried its now day 6 of fever for him, he drinking etc but off food not antib's taken. I read viral fever should go in 3 days anything longer than 5 suggests he needs antib's. I have not come down with it but I did have flu jab my wife didnt, may be its some kind of flu ?

At 6 days of fever should I take him back to doctors ?

Really struggling as got no family close by to help and my work arent happy about me having time off.

Thanks

That sound tough.
If calpol and nurofen aren't bringing temp down for your lo for 6 days now, I would go to GP again.
Have them check his ears, chest and throat just in case. Maybe it's tonsillitis if he is off food? Is he snotty, so doesn't like to sleep laying down and prefers to be held up?

Yes back to GP. I remember doing similar back and forth to the doctors and then on day 9 being asked by a GP why my child wasn't taking antibiotics after being ill for so long, as if I had somehow been neglectful. Needless to say I wasn't impressed!!

I'd go back to the Gp. It may be flu though - when my 4 year old had it he ran a temperture for 10 days.

My eldest ran an astronomical fever for 9 days when she had flu. Def viral in her case.

Thanks took him in to docs again and he had tonsillitis, I can only guess it was coming on when the other docs looked so couldnt see it. Last time he was seen by docs before today was Monday.

I don't know how people manage with more than 1 kid, this is my first and my only child so so hard.
