3 yo chest infection moaning in sleep

whereareyousleep · 09/02/2017 23:06

Hi would like some advice my 3 yo ds has a chest infection and is on amoxicillin and now also clarithromycin as no change on amoxicillin alone. Gp checked him over again today with sats 02 95% and 45-50 resp rate and pulse 120. He is sleeping now but is moaning lots on the out breath and seems to only be taking shallow breaths in. He can be roused. Do I need to be worried about this or is this normal?
Thanks

I don't know I'm afraid, but bumping for you.

Inneedofaholiday2017 · 11/02/2017 01:45

These sats seem ok to me

Inneedofaholiday2017 · 11/02/2017 01:46

But if making a noise on exhale that's not good.
If you are worried take him to a dr - why take the risk of staying at home?

Itscurtainsforyou · 11/02/2017 01:53

Yeah it's 111 from me. 95 sats are ok (I'm presuming no underlying health issues) but if breathing isn't right (which it sounds like it isn't), I'd want medical advice.

Itscurtainsforyou · 11/02/2017 01:58

Meant to add. Last time I called 111 at night about my LO they sent an ambulance out to assess him. Ambulance took an age (not complaining, just stating fact) then they told me when they arrived that it was usual policy to take under-5s to hospital for assessment. So I'd actually have been quicker taking him myself.

So keep that in mind if you get to that point.

Itscurtainsforyou · 11/02/2017 09:59

How's he doing today op?

thisagain · 11/02/2017 10:00

I hope he's a bit better today.

Blinkyblink · 11/02/2017 10:00

Back to the GP

My guess is his sats have fallen

Blinkyblink · 11/02/2017 10:01

Oh hospital because weekend.

Blinkyblink · 11/02/2017 10:02

I held phone up to my GP so they could hear my daughters breaghing.
They rang hospital. I drove there.
10 nights we were in. Double pneumonia.

I was reading your thread because my DS has a chest infection and is on clarithromycin, an inhaler and has steroids for three days. He does seem to be improving after the steroids. I hope your Ds is much better now.

whereareyousleep · 14/02/2017 19:47

Thanks all I videoed him sleeping and showed the GP the next day and she said it was all down to the infection. He's improving but still very chesty when coughing and gets out of breath easily getting him to take the clarithromycin has been a nightmare it tastes foul.

A gp friend told me to mix with abut of water and icing sugar

whereareyousleep · 14/02/2017 20:36

Good idea thanks I will give that a try

Glad your Ds is improving. My DS has been taking the clarithromycin and inhaler for a week now and is much better. He just has a cough now. I think the clarithromycin would be worse with icing sugar and water, but you never know maybe it would make it better. It is disgusting.
