What is this rash on my toddler's face?! (See pic)

My 2.5 year old always seems to have a slight rash on his face around his mouth, I assumed it was due to having a dummy, but he only has the dummy at nap time and bedtime. This morning it's much worse than usual and I have no idea what to do with it.

Is it eczema or should I be taking him to the doctor?

Could be eczema or impetigo. I would take him to the doctor, yes

It looks like something my DS3 had, it's dermatitis caused by licking their lips ( the dummy probably doesn't help) basically they get chapped faces from the wetting then drying which usually get worse when it's cold outside ( or if they have a runny nose etc.). Carry a wee pot of Vaseline around with you and rub some in to protect the skin from moisture/ drying.

Thanks. That would make sense wigglybeezer as it does seem really dry. I am waiting for a call back from the GP but I suspect it's probably something like that.

Impetigo.

It looks like impetigo, the chemist might be able to give you something if you don't get a doctor appointment easily

Flingmoo · 30/11/2016 11:36

Thanks - I've got an appointment for him shortly. Will let you know what the GP says!

Okay we went to the doctor and he said it looks like some kind of infection so we've been given antibiotic cream to apply 3 times a day! Hopefully it works... he currently looks like a 'diseased' kid that all the mums secretly hope their kid won't play with at toddler groups... Shock

Curious if the antibiotic treatment for your child worked. My 5 year old has been dealing with this for a few months, antibiotics helped but it came right back once treatment stopped. I occasionally use it again but it doesn’t make a difference.
