DD's tooth looks strange - picture

DD is 6 and has recently lost her first 2 teeth. The two new ones are growing well - but one looks extremely discoloured. I'll take her to the dentist over the school hols anyway but is this normal?

Has she had any infections while the tooth has been growing? My DD (now 14) has a discoloured tooth similar to that and the dentist told me it was likely caused by the Scarlett Fever she had when the tooth was emerging, apparently it can damage the enamel. Unfortunately it is still discoloured but she may be able to have it bleached/whitened.

I don't know anyone else with a similar tooth to know if this is actually true so have to go with what he said.

I have a tooth similar to this and for me it was caused when I fell over and bumped my face on the pavement when I was about 4 - when the tooth came through it was "bruised" and has always stayed the same.

I thought my ds adult teeth were a different colour to his baby ones (they are slightly yellowish in comparison to the pearly white baby ones) the dentist told me that it's normal as adult teeth have a different structure (something to do with the enamel)
I have to say that the colour difference isn't huge though.

One of my DS's baby teeth was discoloured like that, the rest of them were pearly white. The dentist said it had hardly enamel on it, and it was likely something (unknown) that happened to me when I was carrying him I.e. not my fault. So, it's likely that your DDs tooth was caused by something similar, either with you, or with her, like an infection or medication, something like that.Bloody annoying though eh?

My DD also has some this colour,cthough in patches. I was told it was where the enamel didn't form properly, probably caused by a high temp/illness/ chicken pox at some point in her first few years.
