Hard lump left on leg at site of baby's vaccination

DD had her 12 week jabs approx a month ago (due to have next lot next week).
Noticed today that she has a very hard lump under the skin on her leg just here the men c vaccine was injected. It's not noticeable unless you feel and slightly press her leg and it doesn't seem to hurt her. It's about the size of a pea.

Any ideas?

mine had the same after the 8wk one, came up after a few days and went away about a week later. hth.

Dc2 had the same, the lumps were quite hard and stuck around for ages. I was worried at first but read in the info leaflet that it's normal.

My GP told me his daughter still has a lump at 14!! My kids had them for ages also. Some for years.
I think it's just scar tissue.

If anyone else comes across this because they are looking into itchy immunisation lumps on their toddlers legs ages after the jabs then you need to look up "persistant itching immunisation granuloma". These are irritating but harmless but the concern they cause parents and the oor diagnosis of them often leads to unnesecary investigations. They often come alongside a contact allergy to Aluminium, caused by the Al in the vaccines, and although it is thought this, like the itchy lumps, goes with time it is worth being aware of as all sorts of things from ear drops to sun cream to deoderents have Aluminium in and this can cause a rash.

I signed up just to say thank you for the post about vaccination granulomas. My son has seen 4 different doctors about his lump and they've all said completely different things. I googled vaccination granulomas and this is exactly what he has. Thanks so much 🙏

Hi , was the lump itchy? Just noticed my 2 year old itching leg and checked it and there is a lump. I’m nearly sure same leg as where he got injection but that was 18 months ago …

GraceKel5 · 01/03/2022 15:10

@Chrissakel I’ve just spotted your last post. Just wondering if anything else ever came of this. I just had the same experience with my LO who ya just due to turn 2. I actually remember her having a hard spot for ages after the injection but never checked it again until I noticed her itching it today! 🙈

Hello, just wondering if there have been any development with this?
We have just notice a lump and red mark on our 20mo daughter, but she isn’t itching at all.

Tangofantastic · 20/12/2023 18:48

My DD 7 still has it!

My daughter had it a long while so we spoke to the doctor about delaying her final vaccination for a year (as she was also starting school a year later) while they looked into alternatives without aluminium adjuvant (which causes the persistent itching immunisation granulomas). We eventually went to the children's hospital (here in Bristol) to have the vaccinations done as they couldn't find alternatives but they said they sometimes form when the vaccination isn't done 100% properly so a nurse did them (in her arm I think) and we didn't have any adverse reactions or further exacerbation of the itching (thank god!!!). By the time she had her top up vac (age 5) her legs hardly bothered her at all, just ab it itchy when her immune systems was flaring up for a cold or something, and now as 7 she never itches and the lumps are gone.
