My son is 14 and for the last year, even in the summer, seems to have a cold every month. These have on some occasions turned into chest infections.
He has older siblings and I have never had this with any of them.
Last year he was also diagnosed with Asthma.

He is a CF carrier of one of the rarer mutations, but I thought this didn't cause any issues.
He eats healthily and sleeps well.

I think you should speak medical advice about this, maybe request a referral from your GP to an appropriate specialist.

I'm pretty sure recent research has found some carrier are symptomatic to some degree, or may become symptomatic as they age... Of course, that doesn't mean your DS symptoms are definitely related to his carrier status.

My Dr told me told me just today that cf carriers don't show symptoms, but I'm not sure.
I'm being referred for tests for it, either having it later in life, or being a carrier with symptoms.
I'm brittle asthmatic anyway, but have a lot of cf symptoms, and no medical history as I'm adopted.

I think the fact that the colds turn into chest infections means the immune could be slightly low for whatever reason
Maybe your GP can do some blood or stool test to see if there is an underline infection that can cause this? In the meantime you could try to naturally boost the immune with vitamins, probiotics , fruits, gluten free diet etc
