could this be appendicitis or does that always have a fever?
it's not too bad when she's lying down
but it's really tender to touch
can't get through to the doctor. don't know if i'm overreacting going to A&E

Well I would rule out wind first. That is the most simple and common explanation. Try with gaviscon, peppermint tea and a hot water bottle.

Badders123 · 09/12/2015 16:06

Wind?
Constipation?

EvaBING · 09/12/2015 16:09

I would go to A&E.

Badders123 · 09/12/2015 16:16

Please don't go to a and e with tummy ache
If she starts to develop a fever that won't come down with meds, yes.
If the pain gets very bad, then yes.
Is she starts vomiting, then yes.
Quick test.... an she hop on one leg?

PurpleWithRed · 09/12/2015 16:18

was going to suggest the hopping test, or giving a good cough.

Badders123 · 09/12/2015 16:18

Is it more painful when you press or let go?

casper11 · 09/12/2015 16:29

Hi. My daughter had a week of tummy ache and high temperature last week. I had the same worry as my DD said pain by belly button. Then it moved right. But the second doctor we saw was brill. He said we have glands in our stomach. So when children are unwell they get tummy ache. Also if it was appendicitis then that part of the body would be hard as rock. You wouldn't be able to press it down. Think there is a bug going round. Quite a few mums said there children have been the same. But if you are worried always phone your gp. They don't mind. X

When my 16 yo DD had an appendicitis the pain was in the middle of her abdomen and she was in so much pain she couldn't move. By the time she was seen by the out of hours doctors the vomiting had started. Pain moving to the right side was one of the last symptoms. She was told her appendix was close to bursting.

I told my DD to go for a poo or at least do a good fart when she was ill as that solves a lot of stomach pain but she told me she just couldn't move. And she wasn't being a drama queen, just very still and quiet so I knew she must be ill.

My advice, if still no better after a fart/poo then go to A&E. Hope your DD feels better soon.

TeddTess · 09/12/2015 16:33

yes she can hop on one leg, why?

she seems much better suddenly. she was in agony earlier. she assures me she hasn't farted... weird.

thanks all by the way, some good insight/advice here.

when i said A&E i actually was talking about the walk in clinic at the hospital, not big hospital A&E.

My ds had tummy ache after eating and goes away. It was serious in the end. Make sure she gets ultrasound etc. Don't let DR fob you off because it's not severe when they see them.

Badders123 · 09/12/2015 17:23

My ds had suspected appendicitis earlier this year and they were the 2 things I was told to test Smile
Unless the pain is very very bad it's probably not appendicitis.
Glad she is feeling better x

TeddTess · 09/12/2015 17:36

ah, good to know. it's always the thing you worry about with a pain in the lower right.

Also it tends to start in the mide and travel down.
Is she nearing puberty?
Could periods be on the horizon?

TeddTess · 09/12/2015 18:25

she started her periods in june, i did immediately think period pain but she said no it is not like that. also a paracetamol didn't work (it usually does)... will keep an eye.
