V high temp with flu: carry on or seek advice?

DS (8) has flu, proper full blown flu, with aching limbs, headache, dry cough, sore skin, very upset, lethargic etc. and he says he's never felt so poorly before Sad We're on day 3 now and his temp has sky rocketed today, over 40, and just won't come down. Am now alternating paracetamol and ibuprofen (within the guidelines) but he's an hour away from the next dose of anything and it has only come down to 39.9 Confused He's drinking water with reminders so I'm not concerned about him dehydrating but I'm not sure at what point I should seek medical advice. Trying not to be PFB but also don't want to be negligent! Thoughts?

I would get medical advice, phone GP at least. 3 days seems a long time to have a high temp that usual medicines are not bringing down.

Medical advice definatly, hope he's better soon.

Yep I agree call your surgery and get an emergency appt today.

Thank you all. Sorry to post and then run... Read your responses and called the GP, who saw us straight away and has sent us to the paeds ward (where we are now) with suspected chest infection Sad Just goes to show I should've trusted my instincts and not worried about the PFB thing! Flowers

He's in the best place now. Hope he's on the mend soon.
