DS aged 7 had pneumonia - how long to get back to full strength?

He was pretty ill at the end of the summer term, responded well to anti-biotics so wasn't hospitalised. However he seems very out of sorts still, prone to sudden bouts of exhaustion when he looks white as a sheet. Next day he can be fine and bouncing around again. He has had a couple of colds and/or random temperatures since too, whereas pre-pneumonia he was never ill. He has had bloods checked and all seemed ok, but he is very low energy an awful lot these days. Is this normal this long after a nasty illness or should I see GP again?

my ds took ages to get over pneumonia when he was 13. I wrote a similar thread on here at the time. He was cold even though it was middle of summer, he wasnt eating and had no energy, i dosed him up with minidex and vitamins etc and he got better.

DSL was 2, had to be ventilated and spent 3 weeks in hospital. It took him about 3/4 months to get fully recovered.

I imagine it is harder for an older child as their not napping and resting as much as a toddler would.

My ds had it many years ago when nursery age and I kept him off for at least six weeks afterwards as he was still recovering. I gave him a really good probiotic from Biocare to try and support his immunity and changed his diet to try and ensure he was fully fit. Hope he fully recovers soon.

My ds2 became anaemic, due to the high doses of antibiotics he'd been on. So severely anaemic he developed a heart murmur and was exhausted and run down all of the time. Our own GP missed it, it was only because we had another Dr and she wanted to give him a full check up that she noticed and sent us for the relevant tests.

DS had it at 4. It took him at least 16 months to get better and actually some yhings have never returned to normal eg: his asthma needs more inhalers now and he spikes fevers of 40+ which he never did before.
